Many people know Amazon.com as the source for ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. It’s a great place to buy things and shop without leaving the comfort of your own home.  What many people do not know is that you can also make money because Amazon has an excellent affiliate program.

Here are the things you need to make money with Amazon.com

1. An affiliate account. Simply sign up to Amazon Affiliates.
2. A website or a blog. If you don’t have a blog, you can open a free one with google’s blogger.
3. Some patience and perseverance.

Here’s how Amazon.com affiliate program works.  You can display their products on your blog or website in a number of ways.  There are widgets that show the item plus a description and a price, links to that item, really cool animated banners and product rotators, or you can even create your very own online store. To get the code for these products to display on your blog, simply log into your Amazon affiliate account, find the product you’re looking for, and click to that product page. Then follow the options at the top toolbar that says link to this page, add to widget, add to astore, or however you want to market that product.

Here’s what happens. When somebody clicks on to that product from your blog or webpage, they are taken to that product page on Amazon.com.  If they buy it, you get a percentage of that sale. If they buy anything else while there, you also get a percentage of that sale. The more they buy, the higher the percentage is. That’s not a bad deal, is it?  I’ve advertised a bottle of bean-o, someone purchased that, a book, and an electric razor and I got commission from all three.

One of the ways I like to capitalize on this is by working a link into a blog post.  Here’s an example:

“… Last weekend I was walking my dog by the river when I spotted a beautiful female deer drinking water. I quickly grabbed my Canon Powershot digital camera from my pocket and snapped a few pictures. I knew I had to do it quickly because my dog was apt to bark at the deer and scare it away, but despite how hastily I took the pics the Canon Powershot took great pictures, check them out.”

If someone were to click the link I made inside the blog post, it would take them to that page, and if they bought that or anything else I’d get credited with the sale and get a portion of that sale.  So simply by finding words that could be related to a product, or a product itself, you can make money.

Remember, try to keep it on topic and related.  Don’t try to link to barbeque sauce if you’re talking about dogs. Use the widgets only if your blog has a particular theme. If you’re a mommy blogger, then creating an astore to link to on your blog with a bunch of baby related products is great, especially if you have experience with them and can offer a few words on them.  If your blog is about nothing in particular, that type of selling won’t work as well and it’s better if you stick to the post links I have shown you above. All in all, Amazon Affiliate program can be a great additional money making source for your blog or website just because they handle everything, from the product page to the payments to the shipping. Just make sure your product links are topical and you should get some decent sales.
