Facebook is, bar none, THE most powerful website on the internet, next to google. Facebook has over 500 million users. Facebook wouldn’t even be a country – it’s equal to a continent of people. So you SHOULD be using it to your advantage to promote your website. Here’s how.
Make A Non-Personal Profile:
If you have a facebook profile already, that’s great, just don’t use it exclusively for your website. Make a new one. If you don’t have one, make one for you that you use for your website. The reason is that all your posts and updates make relevant to your website or news about your topic. Nobody cares to hear about how much your tooth hurts or if your baby just spit up on you – unless that’s relevant TO your website. Keep people interested and focused on the topic to make you money, and keep the personal stuff personal.
Get Friends:
Import friends from your emails, crawl your friends facebook pages and do friend requests, get friends to your page! Don’t do TOO many friend request or facebook will consider you spam – I’ve heard no more than 10-20 a day. Still, if only 10% of those add you as a friend (and it’ll be more, people LOVE having more friends on facebook, popularity is a numbers game) your friends list will add up fast.
Have an Informative Page:
Have descriptions of what you do and why you are doing it. Upload interesting photos. List interesting resources, things you like, etc. Try and use the facebook widgets to your advantage if they provide reference to your site and or product. Put up vids you’ve done. Make your page interesting and dynamic so people will stay and be more likely to do what you want them to do – click on your website.
Update Your Wall Regularly:
Update your wall enough to be interesting but not so often to be annoying. Maximum once a day, minimum once a week. Make your updates timely, interesting and related to your website topic. Perhaps it’s an interesting news story, YouTube vid, your own vid, something that happened, something new that you have on your website, whatever. Just make it interesting, dynamic, and concise so you visiting friends don’t get bored. The more people visit the more likely they’ll follow back to your posted website.
Reply to Wall Comments:
If someone posts a comment, reply to that comment! Show interest to the people that visit your page and they’ll keep coming back. If you’re feeling ambitious, follow them back and comment on a few wall posts. Making REAL friends will always help, and you never know what will develop. You might find contributors to your site, people who will spread the word FOR you, anything might happen. That’s what social networking is all about.
Join and Participate in Groups:
Find, join, and participate in groups with similar themes to your website. You’ll find new friends, new followers, and new people who take initiative to help promote your site. You might even find ways to mention your site, product or service to generate even more interest.
If All Else Fails, You Got A Link:
Facebook has an extremely high weighting with Google. By having a facebook page with a hyperlink to your website on it, you’ll have a very high PR one way link that will increase your weighting with Google searches. The more high PR links you have, the more likely your website will get found organically through google searches based on your desired keywords, and that is VERY valuable.
Facebook is a great way to market your website or blog and with so many people using it so often, it might be your best option. So get on facebook to get visitors to your site!
